It's down to the wire for applying for digital TV converter coupons.

“If you do need a converter box and want to apply for a coupon, do it now,” says Michelle Vetterkind, President of the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association .

She says with pending transition to digital TV six weeks away, the feds are concerned about getting backed up, resulting in lag time for people applying for coupons.

TV stations are already broadcasting in both analog and digital signals meaning the converter can be installed anytime.

“Once you hook up that converter box all of a sudden a viewer is going to see all these additional free channels,” says Vetterkind.

On February 17th, stations will no longer transmit in analog meaning the traditional “rabbit ears” will no longer work.

The $40 coupons can be applied for at www.dtv2009.gov or by calling 1-888-388-2009
