In the wake of a scandal involving treatment delays at Veterans Affairs hospitals nationwide, Wisconsin Congressman Sean Duffy (R-WI) is joining those calling for new leadership at the federal agency overseeing those facilities.

Duffy says U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki failed in his mission and needs to step down. “We need to actually get someone in the VA that’s going to take care of our veterans, who is going to root out the bad actors, and make sure we effectively use our resources to care for the men and women who served our country so well.”

The VA is under fire after a recently released Inspector General’s report showed gross mismanagement of medical care within the agency, which resulted in long delays in treatment for veterans. In several cases, those delays resulted in vets dying.

Duffy says, despite serving as Secretary since 2009, Shinseki failed to act on the issues facing VA hospitals. He says “I don’t have any confidence that he can fix the problem, and that’s why I think we need to get someone else in there who’s going to do the job on behalf of our American veterans. I’m going to fight to make sure this happens.”
