as a 1-2 punch in the backfield this season.  Coach Mike McCarthy was high on Harris and was always quick to point that out during press conferences during training camp.

Today, McCarthy announced that Harris will be placed on injured reserve with a knee injury that is expected to end his season.

McCarthy said the team hasn’t discussed designating Harris as the team’s one player eligible to return from injured reserve.  Harris said he didn’t think that would happen.

But for now, Harris will be resigned to trying to rehab and work his way back with the Packers next season.

Harris is expected to have surgery on his Patellar tendon soon.

With Harris out of the picture, the Packers will continue to look at Eddie Lacy, Alex Green, Johnathan Franklin and James Starks.

The Packers have to get down to 75 players shortly and then down to 53 by Saturday.  Harris’ injury may force the Packers to keep all four remaining tailbacks, potentially saving James Starks from the waiver wire.
