The annual EAA AirVenture is underway in Oshkosh, and a half-million people are expected to explore Wittman Field by the time the event wraps up on Sunday. “I like to call it ‘aviation’s family reunion,'” says EAA spokesman Dick Knapinsky.
There are lots of highlights during the week, including the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds flying their first full show ever at AirVenture, Knapinski says. Those shows will be Friday, Saturday and Sunday, as well as night air shows on Wednesday and Saturday. “Those have always been very popular,” Knapinski says.
The U.S. Marine Corps will demonstrate the Osprey tilt-rotor aircraft, and again this year a “one week wonder” will be built during the show. “Construction began Monday morning, and we’ll hopefully have an
airplane ready to taxi out by the end of the convention,” Knapinski says.
Monday afternoon’s air show features short takeoff and landing specialists, followed by a Kenny Loggins concert.
