La Crosse County has a confirmed case of Emerald Ash Borer. Six of the pests were discovered last week by a trapper, a mile east of La Crosse. State Pest Specialist Mick Skwarok says with the difficulty in detected EAB, there is a chance more of the tree killing beetles are nearby.
Skwarok says this latest case could stem from Vernon County where the invasive pest was discovered about 20 miles away.
La Crosse County will be quarantined meaning wood will be restricted from being transported out of the county. However businesses can apply with DATCP for compliance agreements to work around the restrictions.
Skwarok urges Wisconsinites to avoid bringing stored firewood into a new campsite as way to prevent EAB spreading.
The Emerald Ash Borer has been confirmed nine Wisconsin counties.
