Four more counties are now in the state’s quarantine zone for the Emerald Ash Borer, after the beetle was found in Calumet County.
Frank Kirschling is the DNR forester for Outagamie County. He says people in Calumet, Outagamie, Manitowoc and Kewaunee counties can’t take firewood out of their county. He says those rules are particularly important for people, if they go to the northwoods, where the beetle hasn’t been found yet.
The beetle kills ash trees. Kirschling says if people have ash trees in their yard, they can buy a special pesticide that will protect those trees from the EAB. It’s available at some stores, and tree nurseries.
The beetle was found in Sherwood, near High Cliff State Park.
