Sign-ups started June 1st for the BadgerCare Plus Basic program, which is designed to help provide a basic level of coverage to those on the waiting list for the BadgerCare Plus Core plan.

So far, state Health Secretary Karen Timberlake says about 350 people have applied. She says the response has been steady and consistent, with many people happy to have another option while they remain on the waiting list for the Core plan.

When BadgerCare Plus Basic was announced earlier this spring, about 43,000 people were on the waiting list for the Core plan. Timberlake says the Basic program is intended to provide them with simple coverage while they wait, although it remains unclear when space will open up in the more comprehensive version of BadgerCare.

The coverage carries a $130 monthly premium and it’s set to kick in at the beginning of July. Timberlake says there’s still plenty of room for more people to enroll before then. Information is available through the DHS website.
