State election officials expect early voting to again play a big role in the upcoming presidential election. Many local clerks’ offices across the state saw long lines in the weeks leading up to the 2008 presidential election. Nearly 20 percent of those voting in the election cast an early ballot and almost three quarters of those were cast in person.
State Government Accountability Board Director Kevin Kennedy says they expect a similar use of early voting this time around. Although, those who plan to cast a ballot in person before November 6th have a smaller window of time to do so this year. State law only allows early voting for two weeks before the election, down from three weeks in 2008.
While early voting in person has not yet started, Kennedy says absentee ballots are available for individuals planning to request one. Voters interested in requesting an absentee ballot should contact their local clerk.
