Parents and other adults who host underage drinking parties could find themselves slapped with a hefty set of fines, as one western Wisconsin community attempts to send a message on the issue. Police in Eau Claire have issued hundreds of alcohol related citations the past two weekends, as part of a citywide effort to crack down on underage drinking.
Community Relations Officer for the Eau Claire Police Department, Kyle Roder, said extra patrol officers are out this time of year, and within the past two weeks, more than 200 citations were issued. A $263 fine is assessed for first offense underage drinking, and those hosting illegal house parties can receive fines of almost $1000. Police are encouraging students, parents, and community members to work together to combat underage drinking.
