A survey of 10 sample states says Wisconsin needs some improvement in the way it handles elections. The Century Foundation study says the state could do better training poll workers and supplying provisional ballots. For example, Jay Heck with Common Cause in Wisconsin says there needs to be a better ability for voters to cast a provisional ballot if they show up at the wrong polling place.
However, Heck says most of the criticisms about Wisconsin election are relatively minor. He says these are things that would be helpful and improve the situation, but we should be grateful Wisconsin is not like states where problems are much worse.
The survey does give Wisconsin high marks for the way it distributes voting machines and same day registration. Heck says despite the criticism of poll worker training and provisional ballots, the state does a good job.
