LED You can help stave off a spike in your electric bill due to all those holiday decorations.

People are spending more money on energy during the holidays on Christmas lights, cooking and to keep warm. Bob Hernke of the Wisconsin Public Service Corporation says there are some very good energy-saving techniques, including incorporating LED lights into the mix.

" Light Emitting Diodes . These lights are very unique in the fact that they use one-tenth the amount of electricity that a normal mini-light string would use."

Hernke says if you can use LEDs, you'll not only cut down on your electric bill but they are better for the environment.

"Now depending on how elaborate your holiday decorating goes, you could see anywhere from an $18.00 to a $60.00 per month spike in your electricity bill just for the lighting displays around your home."

Hernke says it's good time of year to give your house a "once-over." That means reprogramming your thermostat and caulking your cracks. Also, Hernke says it's a great idea to inspect your furnaces and fireplaces to avoid carbon monoxide buildup. Get more tips, tools and savings calculators by visiting WisconsinPublicService.com .
