Newly released 911 tapes shed some light on the fatal shooting of a Madison man by police earlier this month.

Ronald Brandon was shot by officers on July 15th, after he called 911 to report a man outside of his house with a gun. On the tape, Brandon says the man was threatening neighbors with the weapon. He then gave a description of himself to dispatchers.

Minutes later, his ex-wife called 9-1-1 to tell them Brandon was drunk and that he was carrying an unloaded pellet gun. That call came in as police were arriving on the scene. Moments later, Brandon's ex-wife saw officers open fire.

The tape captures her screaming as officers fatally shot Brandon on the front lawn.

A review of the shooting by the Dane County District Attorney ruled the shooting was justified.
