The body of an elderly Sawyer County woman reported missing last week was found over the weekend – and the woman is the county's third exposure death in the last month.
Sheriff's deputies determined that 84 year-old Kathryn Roberts of Hayward left her home sometime during the Afternoon on Wednesday, February 11th and drove to a friend's home. After leaving that location, Roberts apparently became confused and made a wrong turn. She drove down a long driveway leading to unoccupied seasonal cottages, and her vehicle became stuck when she attempted to turn around. Investigators believe Roberts died of exposure while trying to free her vehicle from the snow. A resident of the area found Robert's body and vehicle at about 4:00 Saturday afternoon.
This is the third exposure death in Sawyer County since mid-January: a Lac Courte Oreilles man died last week, and a Hayward man died after sleepwalking in temperatures in the range of 20 below
