The Senate Environment and Public Works Committee cleared a version of the Climate Security Act late last week. The bill addresses the issue of global warming, a historic move by the federal government, according to an environmental advocate. Dan Kohler, Executive Director of Wisconsin Environment, says it's possible to benefit the economy by using "home grown" energy sources like wind and solar power all the while addressing global warming. He says legislation needs to encompass both of those elements.

Kohler is calling on Wisconsin's US Senators to ensure the bill will keep global warming emissions down to a level that scientists say will prevent the worst environmental impacts. The advocate says Senator Feingold has shown strong support for this bill, while Senator Kohl has been more cautious regarding this issue.

Kohler predicts the Senate will likely debate the bill in June.
