The speeches inside Immanuel United Methodist Church in Kenosha were hot, but a march to the Kenosha County Jail and to Congressman Paul Ryan’s office was peaceful during a protest of the country’s immigration policies.

The Reverend Dannis Jacobsen from Milwaukee said while the protest is peaceful now, many clergy have signed on to future civil disobedience to get their message across.

The Kenosha County Jail has a contract with the Federal Government to house people on immigration holds. The jail’s chaplain, Hasan Hakeen was among the protestors. Hakeem called the new law in Arizona, which cracks down on the undocumented, “abusive” and “disturbing.”

The group delivered a letter to Congressman Ryan’s office calling for an end to the arrest and detention of non-criminal immigrants and a policy with secure civil rights for all who come to this country.

The gathering drew around 150 people, including members of the clergy from across the country.
