The state GOP succeeded in guaranteeing recall primaries to give Senate Republican incumbents more time, but all these “protest candidates” were defeated Tuesday. Three of the six victorious Democrats are Assembly lawmakers trying to win Senate seats in the general recall election August 9.
Representative Fred Clark (D-Baraboo) will face Senator Luther Olsen (R-Ripon). Jennifer Shilling (D-La Crosse) is targeting Dan Kapanke (R-La Crosse). Sandy Pasch (D-Whitefish Bay) will face Alberta Darling (R-River Hills Republican).
Also victorious Tuesday was former Brown County Executive Nancy Nusbaum, who is trying to unseat Republican Rob Cowles of Green Bay. Former Oshkosh Deputy Mayor Jessica King will face off with Fond du Lac Senator Randy Hopper.
One of the “fake Democrats” received 46-percent of the vote in his race. Ellsworth teacher Shelly Moore survived with 54-percent of the vote over GOP backed Isaac Weix. Moore won the right to challenge Republican Sheila Harsdorf of River Falls.
