A Lancaster woman and four children escaped injury Thursday afternoon, when someone fired a rifle at their SUV along a stretch of highway in Grant County. According to a sheriff’s department press release, the woman and kids, ages 10, 13 and 16, were fired at on Wisconsin Highway 61 near the Platte River bridge between Dickeyville and Potosi, at about 5:30 p.m.
The 40 year-old woman was northbound when she passed a pickup truck parked on the other side of the highway. As she approached, she saw a rifle barrel come out the driver’s side window, and heard a shot as she passed the truck. The woman pulled over and the pickup drove off.
A bullet hole was discovered in the driver’s side door of the SUV, and the bullet was recovered from the vehicle’s frame. Deputies searched for, but failed to locate the truck, described as a Ford F150 extended cab, dark green in color, with a cap on the back.
