Wisconsin farmers have some catching up to do, after the cold wet weather in April delayed much of the spring planting.
State Agriculture Secretary Ben Brancel says normally by this time of year at least 50 percent of the oats have been planted. This year, only 15 percent are in the ground.
Brancel says it’s been a slow start and farmers are even farther behind than they were at this time last year. Although, he says farmers also showed last year that they are able to make up for lost time once conditions improve.
Brancel says good weather in the coming weeks would help farmers make up for lost time with the spring planting.
