The head of the Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation says its unfair to blame farmers for rising food prices.

The price you pay on the grocery store shelf has been going up and Federation President Bill Bruins says he's tired of people putting the blame on farmers. Bruins says the connection many people are trying to make between farmers and food prices just aren't relevant. He says the largest factor in rising food prices is that energy costs have been steadily increasing, which raises the cost of producing and transporting food overall.

For several decades, crop prices had seen only minor price increases. That was despite massive price hikes in energy and labor in those times. Those are factors that have increased the cost of food in other countries, but Bruins says the US had remained largely unaffected until now.
