Giant wind turbines harnessed the energy of the wind as officials gathered in Brownville to dedicate a $250 million wind farm Wednesday. Appropriately enough it was a windy day, which provided a practical demonstration for those attending the dedication of the Forward Energy Center.

Congressman Tom Petri says alternative forms of energy have to be sought out. Governor Jim Doyle says the wind farm is just one example of how we can create our own energy and jobs in the process.

The wind farm's 86 turbines are located in northern Dodge and southern Fond du Lac counties.  Fond du Lac County Executive Al Buechel hopes some of that electricity will be used locally. The wind farm will generate enough electricity to power about 30,000 homes.
