For the third time in a little over five weeks the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Department finds itself at the scene of a standoff. This time a 52-year-old Campbellsport man apparently fired off a round from a handgun in a residence while arguing with his girlfriend.
It started late Monday night. The woman left the home and saw the man heading toward their garage. Sheriff Mick Fink says they were going to take whatever time was needed for the incident to cool down. It turns out the man probably left the home before the SWAT Team was in place. The man gave himself up about 10 hours after the incident began, shortly after 8 a.m. Tuesday he was spotted walking up the sidewalk toward authorities.
On March 20th the Sheriff’s Department took the SWAT Team lead in a standoff that resulted in the killing of Fond du Lac Police Officer Craig Birkholz and critical wounding of Officer Ryan Williams and his K-9 Grendel. Sheriff Fink says this time no one was hurt.
The Sheriff’s Department was also involved in an incident in the Wolf Lake area the night of April 5th, which also ended without incident.
