The Wisconsin Democracy Campaign files a complaint with the Federal Election Commission, against Congressman Mark Green.
The Democracy Campaign's Mike McCabe says about $1,250,000 that Green's congressional campaign committee donated to the state account financing his campaign for governor appear to be illegal under federal campaign finance law. McCabe says, if Green had agreed to a much smaller judgment by the state Elections Board, this federal challenge would likely never have come up.
McCabe says Green has run afoul of a 2004 amendment to the McCain-Feingold campaign finance law — and that's different from the law in existence when former Congressman Tom Barrett made a similar questionable transfer. According to McCabe, the federal law now limits such transfers to Wisconsin campaigns to $43,128. McCabe says “it was very foolish of Congressman Green to not see all this coming,” that Green was “greedy” for attempting transfer the money from his congressional campaign account.
