Nearly 140,000 Wisconsin residents enrolled for health care plans through the Obamacare exchanges through April 19, according to figures released Thursday by the federal government. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services estimates that 26% of the 139,815 enrollees were ages 18 to 34, 32% are between 55 and 64, and 91% of individuals and families were receiving subsidies to help offset plan costs.
An estimated 8 million Americans enrolled in plans sold on federal and state marketplaces. The initial Obamacare open enrollment period ended in April, although some adults in Wisconsin who were previously covered under BadgerCare Plus have until the end of this month to enroll in coverage through the marketplace.
