Governor Jim Doyle and US Senator Russ Feingold promote financial aid efforts. During a stop at the UW Madison Monday morning, Governor Doyle attacked Republican opponent Mark Green's votes to cut financial aid while serving in Congress. Doyle says he has kept tuition competitive while in office, and has doubled financial aid commitments since he took office. US Senator Russ Feingold joined Doyle in criticizing Green on financial aid, pointing to reductions in federal Pell Grants. Feingold says those grants need to be increased, but an extreme Republican agenda has prevented that.
The Green campaign says Doyle hasn't helped students very much since taking office, with nearly 50% in tuition hikes over the past four years.
