Senator Russ Feingold made a pitch for support from students on the UW Madison campus Wednesday. The Democratic incumbent urged University of Wisconsin students to take advantage of the Wisconsin law which allows them to cast their ballots prior to the November 2nd general election. “It means that you don’t have to wait until November 2nd to cast your ballot. So you can vote, and you can run around this campus November 2nd, gathering your friend and buddies and making sure they vote.”

Just a little more than a week after President Barack Obama drew a huge crowd to Library Mall for a campaign event in support of Feingold and other Democratic candidates, Feingold urged students to turn out as they did in record numbers in the 2008 presidential election. “Just a percentage, even a modest percentage of those people voting this time will guarantee us a victory over Ron Johnson,” he said. Some polls have shown Oshkosh businessman Ron Johnson with a lead over Feingold, but he says polls of those likely to actually vote show the two neck and neck.

Feingold also joked over one of his campaign’s television ads which landed him in hot water with the National Football League. “The NFL was upset last night because I put Randy Moss’ bad behavior in my ad. But you know what happened? Because I did that, he got traded back to the Vikings.”
