Another attempt by US Senator Russ Feingold to set a date for pulling troops out of Iraq fails.

The proposal would have forced the President to redeploy all US troops from Iraq by June of 2008. Speaking from the Senate floor on Thursday, Feingold said it's time for the war to end. He says the effort has caused the deaths of over 3,700 American troops, possibly over a million Iraqis, and has damaged the nation's credibility.

The amendment is part of legislation regulating troop deployments. It failed on a 28-70 vote.

Feingold says the fight against terrorism needs to move away from Iraq, which means getting troops out of there. He says the US needs to focus on the global fight against al-Qaeda.

Feingold says the US is paying too high of a price for the war.
