A long-time trucking firm based in Fennimore has apparently shut down operations. According to Linda Parrish with the Fenimore Chamber of Commerce, Koschkee Transfer closed last Monday. She says employees came to work to find the doors locked. According to information from the Fennimore business directory, Koschkee has just over 30 employees, which includes drivers. The company also has a terminal in Madison, which Parrish says is also closed.

With less than 50 employees, the company would not be covered by the business closing law in Wisconsin. It requires company officials to give 60 days notice that the business is closing to employees, the state Department of Workforce Development, any unions, and the highest official in the community where it's located.

No one answer the phone at Koschkee's Fennimore Terminal. Instead, callers are referred to a mailbox that's not taking any messages. The company is owned by Richard McCluskey. Trucking firms and truckers in general have struggled financially over the past few years, especially with diesel fuel now costing over four dollars a gallon.
