A Republican lawmaker says proposed spending cuts in the proposed state budget are misleading.

State Representative Steve Nass (R-Whitewater) says the budget bill that passed the Democratic-controlled Finance Committee cuts expenditures by $820 million, but those cuts are not real. He says stimulus money and fee increases are being used to back fill those cuts. Plus, Nass says the spending reductions are only temporary.

He says the budget bill fashioned by Democrats to fix a $6.6 billion budget deficit relies too much on tax increases, and still leaves a projected multi-billion-dollar deficit two years from now.
