Jermichael Finley is entering the final year of his contract and he’s hoping to impress everyone both on and off the field.
The Packers TE has had a roller coaster career in both aspects since coming into the league in 2008. Before the 2012 season, Finley signed a 2-year extension worth roughly $14-million. After the deal expires, there is some question to what will happen:
- The Packers could look to resign Finley long-term but that could depend on the performances (good or bad) of the other tight ends in Green Bay and his price tag.
- The franchise tag could always come into play, but rarely does a player enjoy that AND Finley is one player you could see falling in that category. However, it may be the only way the Packers could get something in return for him.
- They could just let him walk. A big year for Finley along with the importance of the position around the league could mean big bucks elsewhere. Also, a bad year or more problems from Finley could make it an easy, clean break.
The Packers began Thursday’s work at 8:20. Friday, they hit the field for the lone night practice of camp at 7:00. Saturday is the Family Night Scrimmage at Lambeau Field.
