Firefighters came from every county in Wisconsin and four other states to honor Kampmeyer. More than 230 fire response vehicles and 140 squad cars were part of a long funeral procession, led by the Colby Volunteer Fire Department that carried Kampmeyer to his final resting place.

During funeral services inside Colby High School, Governor Scott Walker said it was the largest contingent of emergency response vehicles he had ever seen assembled in one place.

Kampmeyer’s funeral came on the same day his parents John and Patricia marked their 44th wedding anniversary.
