The state has a pro-active plan to fight a hungry tree-eating insect.
State Agriculture bug hunters say the don't think the Emerald Ash Borer has invaded the state yet but they have a battle plan for 17 counties close to the Illinois border.
Jane Larson with the Ag Department says they will be marking some 6-thousand ash trees. Some will be cut this year. Others will have their bark stripped and probably cut next year. This helps inspectors see if any of the dreaded ash borers have made it inside the state yet.
There are more than 700-million ash trees in the state at risk. And if the insect destroys those trees Larson says you'll notice it. Ash trees not only line streets and parks in numerous communities but they're important to the forestry industry and have a special place in the state's Native American culture.
