Senator Scott Fitzgerald will lead Republicans in the state Senate. Now that his party is in the minority, the Juneau lawmaker says they'll work with the GOP majority in the Assembly, to advance issues important to Republicans. “A scaled back agenda dealing with the social issues,” says Fitzgerald. “It'll be more about tax and spend and pocketbook issues.”

Being in the minority is “part of the game” says Fitzgerald. “I've been in the minority two other times. There are some compromises that often can be struck . . those will be initiated by the Assembly, working with the governor. But we can help move those forward in the Senate.”

Fitzgerald succeeds Senator Dale Schultz as GOP leader in the Senate, after Schultz elected not to seek the post. Senator Joe Leibham defeated Senator Neal Kedzie as assistant Minority Leader, and Senator Glenn Grothman was unanimously selected as GOP Caucus Chair for the state Senate.
