Workers are cleaning up the mess from flash flooding over the weekend in northern Grant County in southwestern Wisconsin.
Hardest hit was the city of Boscobel, getting swamped with 13 inches of rain. Steve Braun is the director of Emergency Government for Grant County. “We know there were a lot of houses here in Boscobel that had water in the basement and some houses that have some more significant issues than that. There were some that had water over the first floor in certain places. So, we’re trying to get a handle on how bad the damage is and what exactly the needs are out there in the community right now.”
Braun is estimating just over $2 million in damages to the public sector in the rest of the county from the flash flooding. That doesn’t include Boscobel. He also says 20 homes in the county have major damage, 40 have moderate damage.
Several roads in the area are closed because of the flash flooding. That includes Highway 133 through blue river, and Highway 35 between Lynxville and Prairie du Chien in Crawford County. Also closed, Highway 60 in Richland County between Muscoda and Gotham because of flooding. It will be closed for several days. Also, 200-to-300 feet of track on the Wisconsin Southern Railroad near Blue River was washed out by the flash flooding.
