State officials want to make sure flooded families know about food assistance. The emergency food assistance was at the center of a media storm in Milwaukee this week, but state Department of Health and Family Services Secretary Karen Timberlake says the help is available to residents of all counties that have been declared disaster areas. Residents displaced from their homes may apply wherever they are. There are now 28 Wisconsin counties under the federal disaster deceleration, and with the application period for the first seven counties to receive the disaster declaration expiring Friday, Timberlake urges residents to contact county human services offices or FEMA disaster relief centers.
