7th round draft pick Matt Flynn (pictured) will start the season as the Green Bay Packers backup to Aaron Rodgers. Flynn and Brian Brohm were informed of the decision by coach Mike McCarthy on Monday. Brohm is the teams 2nd round draft pick out of Louisville.
Flynn won the battle, dispite playing as the teams 3rd string quarterback throughout training camp. When Flynn finally got a chance to split snaps during the final week of the preseason and then in the last game against Tennessee, Flynn clearly won the job. Mike McCarthy said he felt more comfortable with the way Flynn was able to operate in game situations.
The Packers also waived punter Jon Ryan and signed punter Derrick Frost, formerly of the Washington Redskins to replace him. The Packers also found their new long snapper, signing Brett Goode and waiving linebacker Abdul Hodge to make room on the roster.
