The City of Fond du Lac has joined 17 other cities around the state that have enacted ordinances prohibiting the possession of K2 or other forms of synthetic marijuana. The Council unanimously adopted the ordinance last night making it a municipal violation to possess it.

Deputy Police Chief Kevin Lemke says it reportedly gives the same high as marijuana, but doesn’t register through traditional police testing.  The fine for possessing it in Fond du Lac will be $208.

Lemke says they hope the city’s ordinance is a temporary measure and federal and state officials will create their own laws. He says the other purpose in enacting the ordinance is to publicize it so parents become aware of it.

Authorities don’t know yet what problems short-term or long-term use of synthetic marijuana will have on its users.
