The cost of food continues to climb. That's according to the latest market basket survey from the Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation, which shows an overall increase of 4.3-percent for 20 of the most commonly purchased food items.

WFB spokesman Paul Kettring isn't surprised, largely because rising energy and fuel costs have impacted the food supply by increasing production prices and transportation costs.

The biggest increase was for corn oil, which saw the price climb 93-percent for a 48-ounce bottle. Kettring says that's likely due to a jump in corn prices over the past few months. However, the report shows dairy prices, along with beef and chicken, remained relatively stable over the past four months.

Kettring says consumers are adapting to the changes, with many looking to store brands on products to help keep their grocery bills down. Overall, he says we're lucky to see prices still mostly under control.
