ESPN.com is reporting today the Denver Broncos have reached a contract agreement with longtime NFL assistant coach Jim Bates.  Bates was the Green Bay Packers defensive coordinator under then, head coach Mike Sherman.

Details of Bates' contract weren't available, but the deal almost certainly will make him one of the game's highest paid assistant coaches.

It's believed that Bates will receive the title of Assistant Head Coach/Defense and that Denver would promote current secondary coach Bob Slowik to Defensive Coordinator.

But titles aside, it'll be Bates that will oversee the Denver Broncos defense.
