A self-confessed spin doctor turned whistleblower is not concerned with the effort to repeal health care reform. Wendell Potter worked for decades as a PR exec for large insurance companies. He had a change of heart a few years ago, quit his job and now advocates for single payer health coverage.

Potter says it’s merely “political theater,” as the Republican controlled Congress plans to vote on repealing last year’s health care overhaul.

“The members of Congress need to have this done because they were demagoging so much during the debate and during the mid-term campaigns, that they have an obligation to go through the motions of doing this.”

Although Potter believes the repeal will pass the House it will go nowhere in the Senate. Even if it did, he says the measure would be vetoed by the President.

Potter stopped in Madison Monday plugging his book “Deadly Spin” which documents deceptive practices in the insurance industry. The appearance was hosted by the Center for Media and Democracy, a Madison-based progressive watchdog group of which he is a contributor.
