Less than five months after a standoff incident that left them both critically wounded; Fond du Lac Police Officer Ryan Williams and his K-9 partner Grendel still have what it takes to be on the job.

This morning the pair were called in to assist the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Department after a stolen car was found abandoned on Highway 41 near the County Airport. Police Captain Steve Klein says the pair tracked three people through a heavily wooded area along a river for nearly a mile, even crossing the river at one point, before locating them.

Williams and Grendel were shot during the same incident on March 20th that claimed the life of fellow officer Craig Birkholz. Klein says it’s hard to believe the two are back in action.

“When you look at it just a few months ago Officer Williams and K-9 Grendel had suffered some life threatening injuries, here they are out in the community doing a great job.”

Klein says they get a lot of requests for public appearances for their K-9 units, but the requests for Williams and Grendel since their return to the department have been dramatic.
