The French government honors five World War Two veterans from Wisconsin today, in a ceremony at the Milwaukee County War Memorial. Five veterans, John Hall of Middleton, James Hickey from Green Bay, Stephen Kellman of Weston, James Pelletier of Rhinelander and Lyle Solchenberger of Lake Mills will each receive the Legion of Honor medal. State veterans affairs spokesman Andy Schuster says the medal recognizes the soldiers for exceptional bravery and sacrifice. All five veterans or someone on their behalf applied to receive the award. Schuster says the honor is long overdue for many who just saw their military experience as a way of serving their country.
