We're still enjoying relatively low gas prices. However, if Governor Doyle's proposed franchise fee on oil companies becomes law, a state lawmaker predicts we'll be paying more at the pump.
State Representative Brett Davis (R-Oregon) says oil companies would likely find ways around a provision that would prevent that from happening. He says most consumers are smart enough to realize the tax is something they'll end up paying through higher prices at gas stations across Wisconsin.
Davis is also worried the fee could have a negative impact on oil cooperatives around the state, making it harder for the families running them to stay in business.
