With recall efforts against the governor, lieutenant governor and state senators currently underway, the state Government Accountability Board is expecting up to 1.5 million petition signatures to be turned in early next year.
GAB director Kevin Kennedy says there’s no way staff can process those in the 31 days currently required under state law, so the agency wants to ask for a judge to set a 60 day timeline for certifying petitions.
The board is set to meet next week to finalize procedures for reviewing recall petitions. Those plans also include hiring 50 temporary workers to help with the process.
