The GAB has its hands full. Will the state’s elections agency get more help to handle recall petitions? Jay Heck with Common Cause in Wisconsin says the state Government Accountability Board will do what it can to follow an order from a judge in Waukesha County – to eliminate duplicate and questionable signatures on recall petitions. “Kevin Kennedy, the director, has said that they’re going to make an effort to comply with the law, and do what they can,” notes Jay Heck with Common Cause in Wisconsin. “But he has made the point that they’re going to need more resources and more personnel to accomplish this.”

Given that, Heck says it’s now difficult to say when a recall election may actually take place. “Between legal challenges, between scrutinizing the signatures, between possible lawsuits that could be involved, I think we’re looking at July, August at the earliest, and possibly into September,” before a recall election between Republican Governor Scott Walker and a Democratic challenger may be scheduled, says Heck “And who knows, it may even be kicked back to the November elections.” Heck says the Walker administration will try to delay the process as long as possible in order to raise money.
