In his first start since July 4th, Yovani Gallado recorded 6-shutout innings of 5-hit baseball to help the Milwaukee Brewers (44-53) to a 3-2 road win over the Pittsburgh Pirates (34-61) Thursday night.  Gallardo also recorded 5-strikeouts as he improved his record to 9-4 on the season.

Rookie John Axford earned his 13th save of the season by giving up nothing over the final 1 2/3 innings.  Chris Capuano returned to his bullpen role after starting Monday to get out of a 7th inning jam.  Axford happy the pen could help Yovani:

Offensively, Prince Fielder and Rickie Weeks each had homers to lead the way.  Prince’s National League leading 24th was a solo-shot while Weeks slugged a 2-run bomb, his 19th.

The offensive output was very similar to Monday’s 3-1 win over the Pirates.  Fielder had a solo home run with Weeks providing a 1-run shot.  On base in both games for Weeks was Carlos Gomez.
