Matt Garza was mowing down the St. Louis Cardinals through six innings, but had to leave with a left oblique strain. The Cardinals rallied with

three runs against the Milwaukee Brewers bullpen to pull out a 3-2 win in St. Louis, taking 2 of 3 in the series.
Garza suffered a similar injury during spring training with the Chicago Cubs in 2013 and missed the first seven weeks of the season. Manager Ron Roenicke can only hope that Garza (7-7, 3.58) won’t miss that much time for the Brewers.
After the game, Garza said he didn’t think this injury was as bad as the one last year, but we’ll see what happens once he’s evaluated today by team physician William Raasch.
Once the Brewers went to the bullpen, left-handed pitcher Zach Duke gave up a one-out home run to Matt Holliday.
Right-hander Jeremy Jeffress then took over and allowed three straight singles.
The Brewers got single runs in the first and second innings, the latter of which came on a long home run by Mark Reynolds.
The win pulled the Cardinals to within one game of the Brewers atop the NL Central. Pittsburgh is just 1 1/2 games back.
The Brewers are off tonight. They’ll open a series against the San Francisco Giants at Miller Park on Tuesday night.
