Matt Garza has been solid since returning from the disabled list and he had it going again last night against the Chicago Cubs.  But the Milwaukee Brewers once again didn’t have the answer offensively and fell to the Cubs 3-2 in ten-innings at Wrigley Field.

Garza tied his season high by pitching seven innings, allowing two runs on three hits with two walks and four strikeouts.

The Brewers suffered their 6th straight loss to the Cubs.

Milwaukee forced extra innings when Ryan Braun scored on a wild pitch in the 9th inning to tie the game at two.  But Cubs catcher Miguel Montero clubbed an opposite field walk-off game winning home run to win it for the Cubs.

The Brewers scored first when Ryan Braun clubbed his 20th home run of the season and 250th of his career in the first off of Jason Hammel.

The Cubs tied the game in the second when rookie Kris Bryant homered into the basket on the right-field wall.  It became a pitchers dual from there.

Chicago’s Anthony Rizzo made one of the best catches of the year on a Ryan Braun foul ball.  As the ball headed for the stands, Rizzo jumped onto the tarp, put a foot on the wall and leaned into the seats to make the catch.  Rizzo’s momentum took him into the stands which allowed Jonathan Lucroy to move to second, but the Brewers wouldn’t score.

The Cubs have now won 11 of their last 12 games and moved to within 1-game of the Pirates for the top wild card spot in the National League.

The Cubs go for the sweep this afternoon.
