The cost of gas continues to climb, and Pam Moen with Wisconsin AAA says many drivers are reaching their breaking point for what they're willing to spend. She says the $4 a gallon mark has people altering their driving habits to try and reduce their gas budget. Those changes include reducing how much time we're willing to spend behind the wheel and cutting back on those extra trips.

However, Moen says there are some other ways to save gas, such as slowing down. She says most modern vehicles see their fuel efficiency reduced once they top 60 miles an hour. For each five miles over 60 you drive, Moen says it can be like paying an extra 20 cents a gallon for gas.

Reducing the weight of your vehicle can also help increase your mileage. As can using a map to help plan more efficient routes when driving around town.

Moen says the high price of gas is clearly having an impact nationally. Memorial Day travel was down last weekend. Also, a US DOT study for the month of March showed a 4.4 percent drop in national highway traffic, resulting in over 11 billion fewer miles being driven.
