Gas prices across Wisconsin are up about 10-cents in the past week, but experts say they should start heading back down again soon.

Beth Mosher with AAA Wisconsin, which tracks fuel prices, says the statewide average for a gallon of regular unleaded gas is up to about $2.85 right now. That’s compared to $2.74 a gallon just last week.

The statewide average at this time in 2009 was about $2.47 a gallon.

Mosher says the spike is the result of higher oil prices and some recent bad economic news. She says both tend to have an effect on what consumers pay when they fill up their vehicles.

Fortunately, Mosher believes prices have hit their peak for the season and should head back down in the coming days.
