Governor Doyle wants to levy a tax on Big Oil profits as part of his plan to balance the budget, but some lawmakers are already questioning the idea.

Republican Senator Glenn Grothman of West Bend says it will hurt consumers. The plan would likely prevent companies from just passing on the cost of the tax to consumers at the pump, but Grothman expects them to challenge that in court.

If it were to stay in place, Grothman says those companies may just decide to keep their costs down and sell less gas in Wisconsin.

The oil tax is expected to be a part of the Governor's plan to fix a $5.4 billion budget deficit.
